INDIANAPOLIS—If you listened to 93.5 and 107.5 The Fan on 1070 AM, before we transitioned to our FM signals, or grew up listening to WIBC on 1070 AM, you will soon hear nothing on that frequency. The familiar crackle of those AM airwaves will go silent indefinitely on Aug. 2.

The land where The Fan towers sit has been sold, and the towers will be coming down.

Emmis Communications, the parent company of The Fan, is working to find the best solution for the future of the 1070 signal.

“As long time owners of the 1070, we are working diligently on finding the next great use for the signal,” said Jeff Smulyan, founder and chairman of the board of Emmis. “We were offered a wonderful opportunity to monetize the property, and felt it was our obligation to explore that. Ultimately, it made the most sense.”

The frequency is broadcast on six towers, with four of those in use during the day. Broadcasts began at the site in 1966.

More than one year ago, Emmis had the tower site for 1070 AM rezoned for mixed-use commercial, office, and residential developments.

The towers are on 70 acres on Perry Worth Road near I-65 in Whitestown.

You will still be able to listen to The Fan at 93.5 FM and 107.5 FM, 1075thefan.com and the 107.5 The Fan app which is available for both Apple and Android.
