INDIANAPOLISUnquestionably, the roster has more depth.

That means this list—of the Colts positions with the most to prove in 2019—is much shorter and more debatable than previous years.

Here are the positions with the most to prove here in 2019:

Wide Receiver

Major resources were invested into the wide receiver group this offseason.

The depth is there, but some questions still remain about the high-end depth and whether the bunch behind T.Y. Hilton can finally be consistent and reliable.

That just hasn’t happened enough, or at all, in previous seasons.

If this group can deliver with its depth, there’s no reason why the Colts offense shouldn’t be a top-5 unit in 2019.

Defensive Tackle

While the defensive line has some definite numbers, the defensive tackle group has some questions at the top.

Starters Margus Hunt and Denico Autry were pretty darn productive for the Colts last year, but now they slide inside for permanent defensive tackle duties.

Hunt and Autry aren’t the widest bodies in the middle though, with both actually logging time at defensive end last season.

The Colts are electing to go a little bit thinner at defensive tackle in terms of body types. There’s still plenty of depth up front, but the body types are different and must withstand a 16-game season.

Linebacker

The depth has improved at linebacker.

Still, it’s a position that would have significant questions to answer if Darius Leonard or Anthony Walker miss time due to injuries.

This group lost their veteran in Najee Goode, so the entire bunch, all of whom are 25 years old or younger, will need to rely on their young leaders. If the Leonard/Walker duo miss any time, some unproven bodies will have to deliver.

Safety

The Colts really like the personnel they have at safety.

But this position has just not been able to stay healthy in the Chris Ballard era.

Malik Hooker must prove the value of being the No. 15 overall pick.

Clayton Geathers must stay healthy in another contract year.

If the safeties can deliver against the quarterback slate awaiting in 2019, that will greatly enhance the chances of this defense being ranked in the top half of the NFL.
