The NFL Draft is just over a week away, and there is one position of need that really sticks out for the Indianapolis Colts.

That would be the tight end position. No other team got less out of that group than the Colts did in 2024, and most draft experts have them using their top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to try and fix that. Tyler Warren of Penn State has been linked to the Colts in multiple mock drafts; if he isn’t there when the 14th pick comes around, the Colts could still take Colston Loveland from Michigan, and come away feeling pretty good about themselves.

However, despite the obvious need at tight end, there have been some rumblings that Indy could do something truly shocking, provided that a certain polarizing quarterback from Colorado drops.

That would be Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Shedeur has been projected as a 1st-round quarterback in a fairly weak draft class, though recently his stock has taken a bit of a hit. Both the Browns and the Giants, who own the 2nd and 3rd picks, and even the Raiders with the 6th pick, lack true franchise quarterbacks. All three seem like obvious candidates to take Sanders, even if he wouldn’t start right away. Lately though, some projections have Sanders falling out of the Top 10 entirely, potentially all the way down to the Steelers at #21.

If that did happen; if Sanders were there when the Colts use the 14th pick, could they use that pick on him? And if they did make such a drastic, shocking move, what would that mean for Anthony Richardson?

During the Wednesday edition of The Ride With JMV, draft analyst Matt Miller of ESPN joined the show, and shared his thoughts on whether the Colts would consider making such a move, and what it would mean for Richardson if they pulled the trigger.

I can’t imagine they would, just given what’s already tied up, spending a Top 5 pick on Anthony Richardson. He hasn’t lived up to that to this point, but the fact that he’s still on the team tells us that they want to give him the opportunity to recover some of the status he had when they drafted him that highly…Let’s look at it this way; when is he going to get reps in practice? There’s only so many reps. If they draft a quarterback this year, whether it be in round one or in round seven, that player’s not getting many reps because you’re still trying to develop Anthony Richardson. So, no I don’t see how that would be a benefit to anyone. If you do that, you trade Anthony Richardson immediately, because there just aren’t enough reps in practice to go around at that point.”
