Former Coaches Give Insight On The Newest Pacers

The Indiana Pacers made two picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, grabbing point guard Kam Jones of Marquette with the 38th pick, as well as guard Taelon Peter of Liberty with the 54th selection.
The two players now embark on their rookie seasons with a franchise that will face a ton of questions in the upcoming season. With Tyrese Haliburton likely on the shelf until 2026 as he recovers from a torn Achilles, there could be opportunities for both young players to try and make an early impact. Jones especially could see real minutes coming off the bench, as Bennedict Mathurin, Andrew Nembhard, Aaron Nesmith and T.J McConnell try and fill the hole left by Haliburton.
On the Thursday edition of The Ride With JMV, two of the people that know Kam Jones and Taelon Peter best joined the show: that would be Coach Shaka Smart of Marquette, and Coach Ritchie McKay of Liberty. Both talked at length about their former players fit with the Pacers organization, the traits they have that will help their transition to the NBA, and what Pacers fans can expect to see from the newest members of the roster. Listen to those conversations and more down below, and tune into The Ride With JMV weekdays from 3-6pm on 93.5/107.5 The Fan!
