Only four teams remain in the NFL Playoffs, which means the 28 other teams are assembling their off-season agendas and priorities, including getting ready for the NFL Scouting Combine in February. It’s the first big event on the NFL calendar after the Super Bowl with all 32 teams descending on Indianapolis to get their eyes on hundreds of hopeful prospects before the NFL Draft.
The Colts will be right in the thick of it, owning the 14th overall pick in the draft this year means they’ll have top-15 talent available when they are on the clock. The Colts have plenty of needs heading into free agency and the draft as they attempt to right the ship with Anthony Richardson and get back to the postseason.
Whether they want to go skill position or offensive line or even adding to the defense with new DC Lou Anarumo, the Colts will have the chance to land what should be an impact player on either side of the ball. One guy plenty of fans are hoping is still available is tight end Tyler Warren. The 6’6″ Warren shattered the record books at Penn State with 17 touchdowns this season and the most receptions by a tight end in Big Ten history. He’s an All-American, the 2024 John Mackey Award winner and will be coveted by a lot of teams come draft time.
The Colts have a major talent issue at tight end and Warren would be a premier player to add to a position that has been severely lacking in talent the last few seasons. The problem is: with the Colts holding the 14th overall pick, will Warren even be available to them before another team scoops him up? ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. released his first mock draft and has projected Warren to fall to the Colts at 14, whereas colleague Jordan Reid, who joined the show on Wednesday, was not as optimistic.
I would not be surprised if he does not get to fourteen. I have him as the eighth best player on my board. I think he would be a huge help to Anthony Richardson, who needs to have a huge year next year and needs as many weapons as he can get. – ESPN’s Jordan Reid on Penn State TE Tyler Warren
Reid noted that other needs for the Colts like safety could be a position to target in the first round. He also noted what he perceives as the deepest and weakest positions in the draft, whether he thinks the Colts should draft a quarterback in the draft and a whole lot more.
