The Indiana Hoosiers are in the middle of a season longtime fans used to only dream about.
They sit at 9-0, own one of the most potent offenses in college football, and now find themselves ranked 8th in the CFP projections (and that might be underrating them). Nothing is set in stone yet, but if things keep going the way they are, Indiana will be in the 12-team college football playoffs, with a chance to compete for a national title. Simply put, the program has never seen this level of success before, let alone from a first-year head coach like Curt Cignetti.
During the Wednesday edition of The Ride With JMV, Hoosiers’ center Mike Katic joined the show as the team prepares to face 24th ranked Michigan in a Big Ten clash. Mike spoke about what led him to return to Indiana after having, in his own words, “every body part out the door.”
“He [Curt Cignetti] gave me the opportunity to come back and play center after figuring out that my o-line coach, Coach Bostad was rehired into the new staff. It was kind of a no-brainer for me to get to play another year under him, get to expand my knowledge of the position and play center, expand my versatility, and then Cig kind of laid it all out there for me, kind of gave me his blueprint, shot me straight [on] how many we were going to win. And I loved that, and I believed in it, and I bought in, and here I am.”
Mike also spoke about the support of the Hoosier faithful as they take in this incredible season.
“I remember in the dark days of IU in 2021 and 2022, the stadium was maybe a fifth of the way filled, if that, and it warms my heart seeing all these fans. I’m just so happy I can give something these fans can cheer for. They’ve been through a lot, a lot of these fans have been through the ups-and-downs with me, so being able to look out in the crowd and see these fans that have been yearning for a good football team and a great year, it’s just really cool.”
