The Indiana Fever aren’t sitting around and resting on their laurels this offseason.

One year after rookie-phenom Caitlin Clark catapulted the Fever from bottom dwellers to the most watched team in WNBA history, the team has swapped out head coaches, re-signed Clark’s backcourt partner-in-crime Kelsey Mitchell, and added some big-name players in Sophie Cunnigham, Natasha Howard, and others . They also announced the construction of a dedicated, state-of-the-art training facility connected to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The message they’re sending is clear: the Fever are now a serious title contender, one that won’t hesitate to make a big move if they think it will make them better.

During the Monday edition of The Ride With JMV, voice of the Indiana Fever Pat Boylan joined the show, and spoke about the heavy hitting moves the team made over the last few days.

“The big picture look at this is the Fever view themselves as a team that can contend right now, and of course there’s always going to be a bigger picture of the young grouping of Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston and what those two are capable of not just next season, but for the next decade-plus, hopefully. But this is a team that they feel like they can put together the type of players to win right now, and to contend right now. I think going 20-20 last year, and making the playoffs with that group was a really big step forward in that regard in showing that even though those two, Clark and Boston, are young, they’re good enough right now, they’re All-Stars right now, that if you can bring Kelsey Mitchell back, which the Fever were able to; Natasha Howard is a two-time All Star, now she’s in the back half of her career but still playing at a very high level. Sophie Cunningham is, I think, potentially going to be a candidate for Sixth Woman of the Year if they do use her in that role…But I think they view themselves as a team that can contend right now, and I would say that’s a testament to where Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are even in this young stage of their careers.”
