INDIANAPOLIS – After 3 games of no snaps missed, Anthony Richardson’s injury questions showed up inside of Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

Richardson left the game on two separate occasions, eventually being ruled out early in the second quarter due to a hip injury.

The first absence was for just two plays, as Richardson took a hit to the right hip area. Richardson also fumbled on the play, and was down for around a minute before he jogged off the field.

After missing two snaps, Richardson returned and was hit again, this one more in the shoulder/head area, this requiring more on-field medical attention. Richardson eventually headed into the locker room.

While Richardson later returned to the sideline with his helmet on, the team ruled him OUT for the rest of the game. Richardson said after the win he was a bit sore and that he had trouble fully accelerating to the point he wanted to, which contributed to him not returning to the game.

“(Richardson) felt good to go back in, ran the play and then felt it more after that next play.” Shane Steichen said after the win:

“…We just wanted to hold (Richardson) out.”

Both of the plays that led to Richardson needing medical attention were on run plays, one designed and then a zone read.

After the first few games in which Shane Steichen has strayed away from running Richardson that much, Sunday’s game plan had much more of a run focus for No. 5.

Now 8 games into his career, Richardson injuries have kept him from finishing half of those contests.

The fact Richardson stayed in full pads on the sideline during Sunday’s game, and was even throwing at some points, is probably a good sign for this injury not being too severe.

But one can’t ignore another yet another injury that has taken the young quarterback off the field. Remember, the Colts do not have their bye week until December, so there’s no additional rest time on the horizon.

Like most of last season’s injuries to Richardson, these ones came on hits from defensive backs.

Joe Flacco replaced Richardson, with Sam Ehlinger bumping up to the backup spot.

On Sunday, Richardson was 3-of-4 for 71 yards, with 3 carries for 24 yards before exiting the game.
