Brian Kelly had been with Notre Dame since 2010 but on Tuesday he ditched the Golden Domers for the purple and gold of the LSU Tigers. A nine-year deal worth a reported $95 million is a far cry from the $250 million Kelly said it would take for him to leave Notre Dame just a week earlier but words are just that before someone shows up to your house and hands you a check with that many zeroes on it. The timeline for Kelly was quick and decisive on Monday evening when Pete Thamel dropped the bomb of Kelly’s impending departure.
Sources: LSU is expecting to hire Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly as the school’s next head coach. An announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

Kelly sent a late night group text to his now former Notre Dame players (something that will live in internet history) and reportedly gave them a rousing 2-minute speech at at 7AM team meeting Tuesday morning announcing his departure. Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick seemed unfazed by Kelly leaving for LSU despite learning of the news Monday evening, calling the Irish football program one of the top four in the country. So where does this leave Notre Dame now and who are some potential candidates? The names near the top of everyone’s list seem to be Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman and Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell.
