INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts decided to not practice Thursday, but it wasn’t just a “day off.” The team took time to work on a different type of gameplan, off the field, and discuss how they will fight social injustice.
On Friday, the team gathered together for a press conference outside their practice facility, to share the details of their plan for 2020.
“It wasn’t just a day for us to just go home and say we didn’t practice. For us, yesterday was a full workday,” said quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
He said every player registered to vote Thursday.
“We also used yesterday to strategically plan and map out how this 2020 Colts team will impact our community,” Brissett said. “Within this map, they aren’t wants, needs, and requests. They are demands and commands that we plan to stand by.”
The team says it plans to do four key things:
-Getting as many people registered to vote as possible and helping them get to voting centers
-Help try to mend the relationship between the Indianapolis community and police
-Provide food drives to help low-income families and areas
-Support Indianapolis Public Schools and help Superintendent Aleesia Johnson “in any way possible.”
“I think what you’ve seen demonstrated by our players, and what you’ll see demonstrated by our organization, is a focused fight against social injustice,” said head coach Frank Reich.
Colts General Manager Chris Ballard said the team will support the players all the way through.
“We will not remain silent on the issues at hand,” Ballard said. “The social injustice that is still in today’s society will not be tolerated. I can’t tell you enough about how proud I am of these young men. They understand that it’s gotta be more than words and it’s about action.”
