IndyStar’s Gregg Doyel talks with DD about the latest qualification results and the downslope that McLaren Racing is currently dealing with. He also talks a little bit about the latest Tyreke Evans ban.
Is Fernando Alonso to blame for not qualifying?
“His job is to get in the car and to drive the damn thing fast. The job of McLaren is to put the best team around him and they didn’t, they failed. We had this once in a generation driving talent in formula one and he’s just kind of drifted away, and that’s on them. He was not happy about it. The only time he made reference to his team failing was a press conference after, he said something along the lines of them deciding to change their strategy for the race if they did qualify and he believed that it was all wrong apparently.”
Did Tyreke Evans just come to Indianapolis and light us up?
“Well, he lit something up, haha. It was just total disaster. He was the exception of the rule that Kevin Pritchard has not done anything wrong since being here with that one exception. So, he’s human. And I originally loved Tyreke’s signing. I wrote about it. I was told he was not a great locker room guy but a great player. He turned out to not be a good locker room guy and cancerous in a whole lot of ways. He’ll never play again and I think he is done with the NBA. I mean he might have a problem because whatever he was caught with is something major.”
With the Indianapolis 500 next week, it’ll be interesting to see what teams show up to play and which new smaller teams can make a true impact in this race. Guys like Kyle Kaiser will have a chance to prove himself after bumping Fernando Alonso.
