Sophie Cunningham Fined By WNBA After This TikTok Directed Towards WNBA Refs

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham recently found herself in hot water with the WNBA after posting a TikTok video criticizing referees.

The video, which featured Cunningham lip-syncing to Sabrina Carpenter‘s song “Manchild” with the caption “@ some refs,” humorously implied frustration with officiating.

The clip quickly went viral, amassing over 1.2 million views.

The league fined Cunningham $500 for the post, a penalty she addressed with humor on social media.

“I got fined $500 for this TikTok. idk why this is funny to me,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

She added, “Like ok, you got it bud! Cause there’s not more important things to be worried about with our league right now.”

This isn’t the first time Cunningham or the Fever have clashed with the league over officiating.

Earlier this year, Fever coach Stephanie White was also fined for comments about inconsistent calls.

Cunningham’s fine comes amid broader player frustrations, including calls for better officiating and ongoing collective bargaining negotiations.

Despite the penalty, Cunningham’s lighthearted response highlights her personality and underscores the growing tension between players and the league over officiating standards and priorities.
