Santino Ferrucci is one of the youngest racers in this year’s Indy 500. Before he takes center stage in the speedway, he takes some time to talk with DD about his life as a motorsport athlete, how his childhood primed him for this moment, and what he is most looking forward to come race day.
On racing at a young age:
“You got to love speed. That’s the only reason I did it. I loved pure speed and how fast you can go. Anything with wheels, I had it and destroyed it probably. I took good care of it [go-kart], I wrecked the golf cart, and the John Deere gators, i wrecked all of those things.”
On qualifying for his first Indy 500:
“You grow up watching this race. You grow up thinking that one day, you’ll get the opportunity to do that. To think that that one day is coming up very shortly, it’s really fun. I have no idea what to expect. I’ve never been in front of almost 400,000 people before. I’ve never witnessed that. i’m excited to not only be racing, but to be a spectator a little bit.”
The Indy 500 is right around the corner and 1070 The Fan will continue to bring you the latest news, interviews, and analysis live from the studio and from the track!
