Amp Harris joins The Ride with JMV to discuss the annual Amp Harris and Reggie Wayne saving our youth celebrity basketball game at the Indiana Convention Center. Amp talks to JMV about how the game is there to give the youth of the Indianapolis area people to look up to. Amp talks about how kids who come from low income families or homes need the support of local celebrities to learn to follow their dreams in the right way.
“I get to see all that you are involved with and how special it is to you. That’s pretty awesome.”
“Yea man you know that it’s all about giving back to the kids. That’s the purpose of the Amp Harris and Reggie Wayne saving our youth celebrity basketball game. As a matter of fact I just left the boy’s and girl’s club on 30th and Keystone talking to kids about the game and the importance of being able to give back to where you’ve come from. That will determine where you’re going. Like I always say the basketball game is a magnet to get people’s attention but the things we do before the game like going to the girl’s and boy’s club and talking to the kids and giving them images of hope. That’s what the game is.”
“Did you lean on support like yourself when you were a kid? We’ve had Mike Epps on the show and he always credits people like you for helping him.”
“Yea you’ve got to have it man. I mean, even Mike, we travel around the country on his national tour for six months out of the year. We try to go the kids of that area, especially those kids of low income families, and give back as much as we can. Being a young guy in the city and dealing with those pitfalls of not knowing when the next meal is going to be from Monday to Tuesday. We all have an obligation. I grew up with a mother that would pray over me and she always taught me about sacrifice and service and how to stay humble. I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in now where I can give back to the community.”
