Andrew Luck reminisces 2018 Colts Season
[Stanford, CA]- Former Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck is reuniting with his former Colts coach Frank Reich.
Reich was named as the interim head coach of the Stanford Cardinal earlier this week. His introductory press conference was held on Tuesday.
Reich and Luck were asked general operation questions you might expect from a new Head Coach meeting, but Luck was also asked about his time with Coach Reich during the 2018 Indianapolis Colts season.
“I came back to that 2018 season and was coming off a year missed to injury,” Luck remembered on Stanford’s YouTube channel, “There was a part of me that wondered if I would play football again.”
Luck would go on to share the story of how he married his wife Nicole, with the wedding officiated by Reich.
“Frank married us,” Luck said, “We had our wedding somewhere else. We came back; we went to City Hall. It was too much of a process in Indiana. I was like I know someone who was an ordained minister at some point, so let’s call Frank up.”
For Luck, Reich found ways to connect with him outside of the Football field.
“I think I connected to the paradigm through which Frank saw the world, saw football. I felt like I grew more as a quarterback, as a leader that year. Through tough times and through good times. That’s why he was the first call.”
The Fan Morning Show’s Kevin Bowen and Jeff Rickard reacted to these comments from the former Colts Quarterback.
“I must say I was struck a couple different times and listening to Andrew Luck talk about Frank Reich and think wow, and he still retired.” Bowen said.
“One of the things that was hidden in there too,” Rickard said, “In that training camp, it was nice, he came out, talked about he didn’t know if he was going to play again. Then he also said he didn’t throw a pass over forty yards because he didn’t know if he could do that either.”
The Colts went 10-6 in that one season with Reich and Luck and won one playoff game against the Texans in the Wild Card round. That would be the Colts last playoff win in eight years. Since Luck’s retirement after that 2018 Season, Indianapolis has started Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger, Nick Foles, Anthony Richardson, Gardner Minshew, and Joe Flacco at quarterback over the last eight years.
