KNOXVILLE, TN.–The Indiana Hoosier men’s basketball team knocked off the Tennessee Volunteers in a charity exhibition contest Sunday afternoon 66-62.
The game had four ties and a few lead changes. Neither team had a lead bigger than six points.
The Hoosiers have seven newcomers on this year’s team, one of whom is Myles Rice. He transferred to Indiana from Washington State and was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year a season ago.
On Sunday afternoon, Rice finished with 20 points. With 1:02 remaining in the game, he put the game out of reach when he passed to Malik Reneau and Reneau finished with a dunk to put the Hoosiers up 64-60.
Reneau led Indiana in scoring with 21 points. Sophomore forward Mckenzie Mgbako had 12 points.
Both Tennessee and Indiana agreed to support the John McLendon Foundation. That foundation offers scholarships for minority students who intend to pursue a postgraduate degree in athletics administration.
Indiana’s next game is an exhibition contest Friday night November 1 against the Marian Knights. Tipoff is at 7 pm. Pregame coverage begins at 6 on 93.1 WIBC.
