Start ’em, Sit ’em Fantasy Football Week 6 – All Positions

Welcome to Week 6 of the NFL season.
It was a mixed bag for us on the start ’em, sit ’em blog last week. There was a lot of good but also some bad along the way. Thus is the nature of the NFL and thus is the nature of fantasy football. I feel like we nailed the QB’s by starting Geno over Mahomes. And honestly, that should’ve been even more lopsided. I told you not to start Rachaard White but my pick on Antonio Gibson was dreadful as he had just 7 touches for New England. I hope you at least picked up Wan’Dale Robinson off the waiver wire, but I’ll say I’m sorry about Zay Flowers. I just can’t figure out the Baltimore Ravens. And lastly, I had a good read on defenses as the Browns picked up just 3 fantasy points. Let’s do better this week, what do ya say!
Take a look below and let me know what you think for this week’s Start ’em, Sit ’em…
***Disclaimer*** I give this statement every week but it’s important to remember there are players you’re basically starting or sitting each week. I tend to try and pick some of the more 50/50 players and write about them. You’ll see that trend as you go.
Quarterbacks
Start ’em – Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams – This start is a combination of a rookie possibly finding his footing in the NFL combined with a favorable matchup. Williams has scored 17+ fantasy points in two of the last three weeks, but he really upped things last week by going over 300 yards and 2 TD. And there’s no one better in the league to keep that momentum going against than Jacksonville. The Jags have allowed the most fantasy points to QBs this season and just got torched by 39-year-old Joe Flacco for nearly 360 yards.
Sit ’em – Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence – Sorry, I know Lawrence lit the Colts up last week but I’m still not buying in. Before his 371-yard 2 TD output Lawrence was averaging just 12 fantasy points per week. He’s goes from a leaky Colts secondary to a Bears defense that has allowed the fewest fantasy points to QBs in the league. Plus, there’s something about those 9:30am London games that I find risky.
Running Backs
Start’ em – Tony Pollard

Tony Pollard – It’s hard not to like Tony Pollard this week when the Titans host the Colts. To put it simply Indy has been dreadful on defense allowing the Texans, Packers, and most recently the Jags to gash them in the running game. In fact, here are the numbers…32nd in points, 29th in rushing yards, and 31st in rushing yards per attempt. Combine this with Pollard clearly being the Titans starter and touching the ball 22 times last week and he’s an easy start in a RB or Flex spot.
Sit ’em – Alexander Mattison

Alexander Mattison – I’ve always thought Mattison was an undervalued player, but the Raiders’ running game is a complete mess. I’m guessing Zamir White (a colossal fantasy bust) won’t play on Sunday with a groin injury so expect the Raiders to dial up Mattison. Unfortunately, he’ll face an overrated yet feisty Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The biggest disappointment concerning Mattison is that he’ll get plenty of touches. For instance, last week against Denver he touched the ball 17 times but ended with just 10 fantasy points. Your only saving grace would be a short yardage TD that could push his total to 16-18 points.
Wide Receiver
Start ’em – Jalen Tolbert

Jalen Tolbert – I’m typing this on Wednesday and am shocked Tolbert is rostered in only 26% of ESPN leagues. With the injury to Brandin Cooks it’s clear that Tolbert is Dak Prescott’s number 2 WR. Plus, three of the last four weeks he’s went over 13 fantasy points with his crowning jewel being 7 catches, 10 targets, 87 yards, and a TD against Pittsburgh last week. I plan on putting Tolbert in the Flex position in a couple leagues and hope that positive trend continues.
Sit ’em – Courtland Sutton

Courtland Sutton – Well, if you checked this blog entry earlier and came back for second helpings you know I had to switch things up at WR. Initially I had Michael Pittman Jr. from the Colts as a sit option for week six. It looks like he’ll miss multiple weeks with a back injury and ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he might even go on IR. So, let’s talk about Sutton. I like Sutton but he’s dealing with sketchy QB play and a tough matchup. I’m looking for the Broncos to continue to utilize their RBs in the passing game and the Chargers (per USA Today) haven’t allowed a WR room to go over 11 catches in a game all season. You’re basically TD boom or bust to get into double digit fantasy points.
Tight End
Start ’em – Tucker Kraft

Tucker Kraft – You shouldn’t believe me, but I was going to recommend at least scooping Kraft up off the waiver wire last week. He carried me in a couple leagues with his 4 catches, 88 yards, and 2 TD performance against the Rams. The two things working in his favor is the unrest in the Packers WR room (hoping for more Kraft targets) and his matchup with Arizona as the Cardinals allowed 20 fantasy points and a TD to George Kittle last week.
Sit ’em – Dalton Kincaid

Dalton Kincaid – Maybe outside of Mark Andrews no TE has epitomized the position’s dysfunction this season more than Kincaid. He’s playing with a future HOF QB and a team that lacks potent WR play but still cannot get a sniff. Kincaid is averaging a puny 7.5 fantasy points per week and now gets a tough matchup against a motivated and angry Jets defense. A cheap TD is your only hope in scoring points with Kincaid.
Defense
Start ’em – Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles – Philly’s underperforming defense is rostered in 58.5% of ESPN leagues. I found that amazing given they’ve accumulated just four points in four games. They have only six sacks, two interceptions, and no forced fumbles on the season. Truly amazing. But this week is all about futility and that’s what the Eagles face on Sunday by hosting Cleveland. There’s no sadder QB than Deshaun Watson.
Sit ’em – Baltimore Ravens

Ravens – I haven’t been able to pinpoint why Baltimore’s defense has been pretty regular this season, but the numbers don’t lie. The Ravens are averaging just 4.6 fantasy points per week and were just shredded in Cincinnati for 36 points (-1 in fantasy scoring). And their opponent this week is only one of the hottest offenses in the Washington Commanders and one of the more impressive QBs in Jayden Daniels. There are better streaming options this week.
