Whose Absence Would Hurt More: Richardson Or Taylor?

The Indianapolis Colts began practicing Wednesday ahead of their Week 5 trip to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars, and there were two notable offensive players that were not out on the field with their teammates.
Quarterback Anthony Richardson did not participate in team drills, though he did put some work in individually. Meanwhile, running back Jonathan Taylor did not practice at all as he deals with what is described as a “mild high ankle sprain”. Head coach Shane Steichen commented after practice that even if Richardson didn’t practice this week, he still might be able to start against the Jaguars.
During the Wednesday edition of The Ride With JMV, John raised the question of what would be more concerning: if Richardson sits against Jacksonville, or if Taylor does.
It’s not as if the Jaguars are a juggernaut or anything; they’re 0-4 and have looked increasingly stuck in a lost season. Considering the Colts horrid history in Jacksonville over the last decade however, the Colts can’t afford to get cocky. Nor can they afford to have their best player, Taylor, on the bench.
Obviously, if Richardson can go, he should. Every game played is valuable experience for him, but he is also a wild card at this point. You’re never quite sure how he is going to perform from week to week. Taylor on the other hand, has been the engine that makes the Colts offense run. If he is on the field with backup quarterback Joe Flacco, the Colts still should be in relatively good shape. If, on the other hand, Richardson is out there without his best weapon, the Colts could be in for another rough trip to Duval.
Check out the Best of JMV down below, where he talks to Kevin Bowen of the morning show The Wake-Up Call w/KB & Andy about the potential absence of Richardson and/or Taylor; he also spoke to Spero Dedes of CBS, who will be on the call of the game, about that topic and more!
