If someone could get [the ball] within three feet of him, he’s going to make the catch. – ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller on Alec Pierce

The NFL Draft is in the rearview mirror and we won’t truly know how Chris Ballard and the Colts did until a couple of seasons pass but it’s always fun to see what they did on paper and jump to conclusions.  On Monday’s Kevin & Query, the guys were joined once again by ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller to discuss what Indianapolis did over the three day draft.  Miller was a huge fan of the selection of wide receiver Alec Pierce in the second round and thinks he’ll be a difference maker for the Colts in the fall.  He said watching back film showed that Pierce’s numbers could have been even more impressive had Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder been more accurate with the football and thinks Matt Ryan being under center will be a huge benefit to a guy like Pierce.

I look at him and there aren’t many dudes like that playing football in the NFL today.  Even if he’s a primary red-zone target right away, 6-foot 7 with his athletic ability, that’s a beautiful post-up player in the red zone. – Matt Miller on Colts third-round selection of tight end Jelani Woods
