Indianapolis – Indiana basketball started the season 3-0 with an impressive win against St. John’s at Assembly Hall on Wednesday. For the Hoosiers, and fans around the country, it was a promising early showing by this team and proof that new Head Coach Mike Woodson has captured the positive momentum from the offseason and translated it into a strong start of the season.

Voice of the Hoosiers Don Fischer joined JMV to talk about the specific impact Woodson has had on preseason All-American Trayce Jackson-Davis in their short time together:

“He’s a different player this year under Mike. Different in how hard he plays all the time that he’s on the floor. You know as well as I do watching him in High School and his first two years at IU that was not always the case. I don’t think he was lazy, I think he just got comfortable and didn’t play as hard as he needed to play sometimes. Mike has really impressed on him how important that aspect of it is if he wants to be a player at the next level. You have to work hard every time you’re out on the floor, and man has he taken that and run with it so far this year.”

While the team is 3-0 and shown promise in the non-conference slate, JMV wanted to know what Don thought was still an area of concern moving forward for this team:

“I think the 1st thing you worry about with the personnel on this team is if they can shoot from the outside…I still think there is still a lot of room for improvement in that vain, so you just hope that they can knock down shots like they did vs St. John’s because if they do that they’re going to be fine.”

Indiana Basketball now heads into a 3 game stretch vs LA-Lafeyette, Jackson State, and Marshall before heading to Syracuse to face the Orange in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

If you missed any of Don’s thoughts about IUBB’s start to the season as well as how disappointing the football team has been this season historically considering preseason expectations, listen to the full interview with JMV below!
