Indianapolis – For the 1st time in NFL history a 17th game was added to the regular season and with that means a higher chance at injuries heading into the playoffs. One of the first things a player does when schedules are released is to look at where the bye week is located. For the Colts in 2021 it couldn’t fall any further in the schedule, Week 14.

107.5 The Fan co-host of “Kevin & Query” Kevin Bowen joined JMV Wednesday afternoon to talk about the placement of the bye week and whether or not it could save them heading into the final stretch run of the season:

“I remember looking at the schedule in late May and saw that late bye so I looked at who else had that late of a bye. If you remember when Chuck (Pagano) was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 they had the earliest bye week in the NFL. It’s crazy how these bye weeks fall and ironically New England has that same bye week and then they play each other in Week 15. That’s the game I think will have the most consequence for the Colts in the playoff race.”

JMV thought that it could come around at the perfect time:

“This whole latest bye week of the season could turn out to be in a magical position for them. If they are able to vault themselves into the very serious conversation then it comes around at the perfect time. Let’s say they don’t and then it become a non-issue whatsoever and no one is going to care. It’s going to be very interesting over these next few weeks how things transpire.”

As JMV said, if the Colts aren’t able to capitalize and get a win over the next two weeks vs the Bills on Sunday and then the Bucs at home in Lucas Oil Stadium after that, it may not matter what week the Colts bye week comes.
