SAN ANTONIO–The Indiana University women’s basketball team saw their historic season come to an end Monday night with a loss to the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.

Arizona clamped down on the Hoosiers to beat IU 66-53 from the Alamodome in San Antonio. Indiana went 0-for-9 from 3-point range and scored just three points over the game’s final five minutes. The 4th seeded Hoosiers were making their first-ever Elite Eight appearance.

“We had a great Big Ten season. We had a great postseason in San Antonio. We did all of that in a really challenging year with the pandemic,” said IU coach Teri Moren. “I can’t state enough how proud I am of this group. What they’ve been through and what they’ve fought through is simply amazing. We will be back.”

IU was led by Mackenzie Holmes, who scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

IU has won 20 or more games in six consecutive seasons.
