How’s Alec Pierce Feeling Entering A Contract Year?
In 2024 the Indianapolis Colts selected Adonai Mitchell in the second round of the draft with the thinking that he can be the guy to replace Alec Pierce. That resulted in Pierce going out and having a career year.
Last season, the former Cincinnati Bearcat set career bests in receiving yards (824) and touchdowns (7). Pierce also led the league in yards per catch (22.3). His breakout is largely connected to Anthony Richardson because of his ability to get Pierce the ball down the field unlike some of the quarterbacks he’s played with before.
There have been numbers tossed out there that Pierce could earn $20 million per year following the 2025-2026 season. 31-year-old Stefon Diggs just got paid 3-years $63.5 million from New England after tearing his ACL last season. It’s hard to really pinpoint what the per year average would be for Pierce because there aren’t a ton of guys in the NFL that have the ability to consistently get open down the field like he does.
When asked by Jake Query on Query & Company this afternoon about his mindset heading into a contract year, Pierce stated “For me , everything has always been just taking things day-by-day. That’s the way I live life. I just try to focus on camp, focus on coming out here seeing what I can do everyday. Continue to prove to the coaches, prove to the quarterbacks, prove to myself, just earn more reps, earn more balls in the game, and stuff like that. That’s kind of how I attack things.”
The 25-year-old also went on to say that he is going to be up to the front office if they want him to be suiting up for the Colts beyond this season.
Other topics that Pierce discussed with Jake Query were:
- How long it took him to learn how to become a receiver in the NFL
- Josh Downs calling him the best golfer on the team
- Is there a difference between catching a football from Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones?
