Tony Trent, the father of the late great Tyler Trent of Purdue comes on the show to talk with DD about the impact and reach Tyler continues to make. The parents of Tyler have recently released a book sharing the incredible moments of Tyler Trent’s life. “The Upset” proceeds will go directly towards pediatric cancer research and finding more awareness.
What has happened with the newly released book, “The Upset”?
“The book is available everywhere where you can purchase books, Amazon, Borders, wherever you purchase a book its available. It’s still available at TylerTrentbook.com and it is called ‘The Upset’. It is actually the number one book on Amazon for new release in its age category. So we are extremely grateful for everyone that has purchased the book and everything we are trying to do to upset pediatric cancer with the proceeds of the book. Essentially it is written in Tyler’s voice alongside Kelly and I’s voice. It’s a book about the hardships about going through cancer and a little more details about Tyler’s life.”
What message were you guys hoping to spread with the release of this book? What did you want people to get out of it?
“Mitch Daniels was able to compare Tyler’s life to other student’s life and basically challenge the students today to toughen up for a lack of terms. There is so many things going on, and if you get unliked on twitter or whatever it is not the end of the day. Tyler was going through immense pain, you could not imagine the pain. The camera showed one thing but his life was another. And really that’s what the book is all about. We wanted to bring hope to people that were going through super, super hard things. Doesn’t have to be cancer, you can be going through a loss of a family member or wanting to commit suicide itself. We wanted to help bring encouragement to hurting families.”
The book has already had plenty of initial success and is continuing to keep Tyler’s message and inspiration alive. With each book sale, more help will be going to helping other kids dealing with similar stuff. Tony and his wife Kelly are making sure Tyler’s light does not go out.
