Two time FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Julie Foudy joins The Fan Morning Show. Julie talks with the guys on why the Women’s National Team has been ahead of the Men’s National team. Julie Foudy also talks about how the US Women’s National team has added some younger players who can break down compact bunker defenses.

On why Women’s National Team is ahead of Men’s team:

“The cultural differences with men and women and soccer is, the world has played men’s soccer for centuries, and for the women’s side there are still till this day a lot of countries that just don’t except women playing. The US is light years ahead, thankfully of that mindset, and as a result millions of girls are playing soccer. That is basically the reason we have been so successful.”

On defending World Cup Title:

“You know it’s pretty standard, there’s a large chunk of that core group from 2015, and even more from the 2016 Olympic team, but the key was when the US lost everyone remembers they won the last World Cup. Their last big world event was the Olympics in 2016 and the US came crashing out of that against Sweden. The last three years we have added young creative players to break down compact bunker defenses. That’s the element I think this team is much stronger.”
