Will Caitlin Clark Play Tomorrow Night Against Minnesota?

Caitlin Clark’s sophomore season has not gone according to plan by any means. She played in the first four games of the season and then missed three weeks with a left quad strain. Now, Clark has missed the last two games with a left groin strain.

Head Coach Stephanie White has not shared much information on Clark’s injury. From the moment it was announced, she stated that she was going to let the training staff handle Clark’s injury. She did go through practice Sunday afternoon and backed what her coach said last week. Indiana’s WNBA All-Star captain said, “I feel good. I am going to be day-to-day here on out. Doing everything I can to put myself in a position to play the next game every single time. That’s always my goal to be available for the next game.”

On Query & Company Monday afternoon, Stephanie White had this to say about Clark’s availability for tomorrow’s game, “We still don’t know. It’s a day-to-day thing. Did some stuff at practice today, making sure we don’t have any setbacks. We got to be smart about this. We’ll evaluate tomorrow morning at shootaround.”

The former Iowa Hawkeye is averaging 18.2 points per game, 8.9 assists per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and 1.6 steals per game. Despite the gaudy numbers, she has struggled with her three-point shooting. When she made her return after missing five games because of her quad strain, she drained seven of her fourteen attempted threes. Eliminating that game, she is 16/64 (25%). She has also struggled with ball security, averaging 5.9 turnovers per game, most in the WNBA. That is 2.5 turnovers more per game than Angel Reese’s 3.4 per game that is second worst in the WNBA.

In the seven games without their best player, the Fever are 3-4 with wins over Washington, Chicago, and Dallas. A key player in the three wins for Indiana has been Aari McDonald. In five games, she’s averaging 12 points per game, 3.2 assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game whilst shooting 47% from the field and 33% from three-point range. In their most recent game against Dallas, McDonald got the start instead of Sydney Colson and it paid off. Indiana’s 94 points were the most in a game without Caitlin Clark this season and shot a season best 59.3% in the win.

Tomorrow’s WNBA Commissioner Cup Championship game against the Minnesota Lynx is going to be the biggest challenge for Indiana this season. They went 1-1 at home against the New York Liberty with Caitlin Clark. Minnesota enters the game with a league best 14-2 record and 8-0 at home, tomorrow’s game will not impact the win/loss record for either team. Click here for all information pertaining to the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. The Lynx are led by the league’s top scorer and the early frontrunner for MVP, Napheesa Callier. Pregame coverage with Eddie Garrison will start at 7:45pm and then John Nolan and Bria Goss will have the play-by-play coverage at 8pm on 93.5/107.5 The Fan.
