Seth Greenberg joins The Dan Dakich Show to discuss why players need to be loved. Dan asks Seth why players need so much positive reinforcement from fans and coaches to perform well and why they can’t just work hard and keep their mouths shut. Seth goes into the fact that getting positive reinforcement doesn’t make players play better it just gives them a level of trust to feel comfortable around their team. Dan and Seth end the conversation talking about college basketball.

“I couldn’t go back to coaching because I couldn’t say all of the love each other and God made us win this game stuff. When did all that crap start?”

“I don’t know but shoot I was a Jewish guy in the locker room so we went through a lot of stuff like that. We just had the strength of heart to play the toughest team and kick their rear end. I don’t have anything with someone being deeply spiritual. My thing is, if somebody is going to be deeply spiritual, the guy on the other end has bigger issues then whether my team wins.”

“When did coaches have to start doing this stuff then?”

“I think a lot of recruiting is done through the church if you know what I mean. To me it definitely is a thing and it’s definitely a way to connect to someone that is maybe in the inner circle. I don’t know. I always thought it was like we are going to give you a role, we have a great team, blah blah blah, we play in a great league to help you get better, I thought that was it.  If you go to class every day, have a good work ethic, and you know what, if you have a spiritual belief I think that is great.”
