INDIANAPOLIS — Kelsey Mitchell was a huge anchor for the Indiana Fever last season as they made a run to the WNBA Playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade last season.
On Wednesday, the team announced that they have agreed to terms with Mitchell for her to return for another season. The 2025 season will be her eighth with the Fever.
“I’m thrilled that Kelsey is returning to Fever. She has been an integral part of this franchise from the moment she was drafted,” said Fever Head Coach Stephanie White. “I have watched her journey from the sideline since her time in college and have always admired her work ethic, approach to the game, and the way she interacts with her teammates. I can’t wait to work with her on a daily basis.”
Mitchell had been a “Core Free Agent” with the Fever this off-season meaning that Indiana had the first rights to negotiate a new deal for the 2025 season.
Mitchell tied Caitlin Clark as the Fever’s leading scorer last season averaging 19.2 points per game. She has also been reliable, only missing five of the last 240 possible games played by Indiana. She was also their most efficient shooter going 46% from the field as a whole, 40% when it came to 3-point shooting. All of those statistics were career-highs.
“Kelsey has been a foundation of our franchise for many years, and we are thrilled to see her return to the Fever,” said President of Basketball and Business Operations Kelly Krauskopf, who drafted Mitchell in 2018. “We value Kelsey’s commitment to our organization, and we’re excited to see her build off a phenomenal 2024, her best season yet. She is one of the best guards in this league and is a cornerstone to building a championship roster.”
Mitchell has spent her entire career with the Fever ever since being drafted out of Ohio State in 2016. She’ll join the likes of Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Lexie Hull with the organization for 2025.
Mitchell is in China this WNBA off-season playing professionally for the Shanxi Flame of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association.
