Hoosiers Grind Out Win Over Gophers, Get First Big Ten Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.–The Indiana Hoosier men’s basketball team led by as many as 21 points and shot 57% on their way to an 82-67 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers Monday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
During the first nine minutes, both teams exchanged the lead seven times and there were eight ties, but Indiana took the lead for good at 24-22. By halftime, they led 44-31 after shooting 73% in the first half.
Five players finished in double figure scoring for Indiana. Oumar Ballo led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds. Malik Reneau and Bryston Tucker each had 16 points. Mackenzie Mgbako scored 13 points and Kanaan Carlyle returned from injury to score 14 points.
The Hoosiers bench outscored Minnesota’s bench 32-14. They also outrebounded Minnesota 35-22. Indiana had 21 assists on 30 made baskets.
Minnesota was paced by Dawson Garcia with 22 points on 9-15 shooting.
Indiana improves to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play. Minnesota falls to 6-5 and 0-2 in the Big Ten.
