The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines were each fined a substantial amount of money following the post-game brawl on Saturday afternoon.
Each school was handed a $100,000 fine after multiple fights broke out after the game.
Michigan players attempted to plant their flag on the Ohio State football field after they beat the Buckeyes 13-10.
From FOX 8:
The Big Ten Conference determined the actions of both teams violated the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy, according to a statement posted on the conference’s website.
“Not only did the actions of both teams violate fundamental elements of sportsmanship such as respect and civility, the nature of the incident also jeopardized the safety of participants and bystanders.”
In addition to the players fighting, police officers were also seen using pepper spray to break up the fight. Authorities report that one officer suffered injuries bad enough to force a hospital visit.
“There are some prideful guys on our team who weren’t going to sit back and let that happen,” said Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.
The loss to Michigan dropped the Buckeyes to No. 7 on The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll.
