[Bloomington, IN]- Indiana football is having its best season in program history, and could get even better.
IU is currently 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in Big Ten conference play. Those six wins already makes the Hoosiers Bowl Eligible, but they could squeak their way into the College Football twelve team playoff.
Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde joined the Wake up Call with KB and Andy Wednesday to outline what he sees in the Hoosiers.
“I’m dazzled, blown away by what they’ve done,” Forde said, “Love (Curt) Cignetti’s entire approach. To have talked the noise he did is highly impressive at Indiana.”

Forde would go on to say the College Football Playoff is a possibility for IU.
“They are a legitimate playoff contender,” He said, “Look at their schedule. There are not many things more dangerous than prematurely counting victories for Indiana football, but in this instance, the schedule really sets it up for them to have a shot at it.”
Forde gave further insight to the Cignetti hire.
“(Scott Dolson) had his staff really study places like North Carolina, Northwestern, Kentucky, Kansas, places that have been basketball centric schools but had found the right guy in football,” Forde shared, “Those things kind of led him to that checklist.”
Forde would explain the recruiting side is one of the most important things for Indiana.
“Recruiting is even more apart of the job now. Whether it’s portal or whether it’s high school. You’ve got to have people who can not only sell a school, but also evaluate talent. That’s an area where Cignetti has a real eye.” He spoke.
The Hoosiers last bowl appearance was in 2021 when they lost 26-20 to Ole Miss. They have never made the College Football playoff since its inception in 2014. IU is 3-10 in Bowl games, with the last one being in 1967 before the 2021 game.
