The Indiana Hoosiers are 4-0, and are fresh off of two blowout wins over UCLA and Charlotte.

On Saturday, they will take on their toughest opponent yet, when fellow Big Ten conference member Maryland will come to Bloomington in a highly anticipated matchup. Much like the UCLA game, in years past there would have been concern that the Hoosiers might lay an egg; instead, with how decisive their four victories have been, excitement is growing for head coach Curt Cignetti and his team.

Maryland is a tough matchup, make no mistake. They are 3-1, with their lone loss coming at the hands of the reigning national champions, the Michigan Wolverines. The Hoosiers, up to this point, have not really been challenged by any of their opponents. That will likely change on Saturday, as we will get our first real look at how good this Hoosiers team really is.

During the Wednesday edition of The Ride With JMV, Zach Osterman, who covers Indiana for the IndyStar, joined the show. Zach spoke about the challenge Indiana is facing in the Turpins.

“I think, first of all, this is almost certainly the best team Indiana’s faced thus far with respect to UCLA. I think in the sort of broad-brush way, I think certainly you can always trust Mike Locksley teams to have athletes at a number of positions on both sides of the ball, to have really good skill players in a lot of situations…In a more specific way, Maryland can pass the ball really, really well…Billy Edwards has been really good, Tai Felton has been outstanding at wide receiver. I mean his numbers almost don’t look real for a guy that’s only played four games this year, and if you still have questions about Indiana, I think one of the big ones is probably in the secondary. Both depth and athleticism, playmaking ability in the secondary, that’s where I think Indiana has got to kind of win the biggest matchup battle this weekend.”
