INDIANAPOLIS A second straight practice in full pads saw the Colts have their longest and most physical session of the 2025 training camp.

Wednesday brings an off day for the Colts before an anticipated night practice on Thursday.

Here are some takeaways from Day 6 of Colts training camp:

-For the second straight day, it was Anthony Richardson getting an extra starting period in 11-on-11 work. Richardson began Tuesday strong, but had a rough final session, going 9-of-16 across a variety of different situations. Richardson completed his 9 balls to: Michael Pittman Jr. (4), Anthony Gould (2), Mo Alie-Cox, Josh Downs, Drew Ogletree. Richardson spoke to the media after Tuesday’s practice and seemed pleased with how more off-season footwork focus has led to some better accuracy in his underneath throws. The third-year QB says he has “more control” over the ball. Again, Richardson has shown an improvement in this area, albeit the bar was pretty low. That’s something offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter pointe to following Tuesday’s practice. The best period of work from Richardson on Tuesday came during a red-zone session. That started with a completion to Michael Pittman Jr. A false start followed, pushing the Colts starting offense back a bit, but Richardson then delivered consecutive completions to Anthony Gould, and then Josh Dons for the touchdown. An 0-for-3 final period of work (with the second unit) put a sour note on what was largely a second straight solid practice from the oft inconsistent QB. For camp, Richardson is unofficially 34-of-65. He has completed his 34 balls to Michael Pittman Jr. (10) Tyler Warren (5), Anthony Gould (5), D.J, Montgomery (2), Alec Pierce (2), Will Mallory (2), Josh Downs (2), Jonathan Taylor, D.J. Giddens, Tyler Goodson, Ashton Dulin, Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree.

-Was Tuesday the best camp practice for Daniel Jones? It might have been. Of course, similar to Richardson, saying that doesn’t mean Jones’ day was some exceptional afternoon of work. The Jones highlights, around a good amount of screens, were showcasing some strong goal line velocity to Ashton Dulin for a touchdown. And then Jones ended Tuesday with some nice plays to Michael Pittman Jr. and Dulin again, as he closed practice with the starters. Jones finished the day 8-of-11, completing his passes to Ashton Dulin (2), Anthony Gould (2), Jonathan Taylor (2), Josh Downs, Khalil Herbert. Like Richardson, I would call these Monday and Tuesday days a better start to this week of work for the two quarterbacks compared to last. For camp, Jones is 36-of-59 (unofficially), with his completions to Anthony Gould (7), Ashton Dulin (5), Alec Pierce (3), Josh Downs (3), Jonathan Taylor (2), Drew Ogletree (2), D.J. Giddens (2), Will Mallory (2), Michael Pittman Jr., Drew Ogletree, AD Mitchell, Tyler Warren, Salvon Ahmed, Khalil Herbert.

-Cross off one major news item, with the Colts officially announcing the extension of Bernhard Raimann on Tuesday morning. The extension was reportedly for 4 years and $100-million. No matter what the future of this franchise looks like past 2025, you need a player like Raimann securing that left tackle spot. He’s arguably Chris Ballard’s most impressive draft pick when you factor in his play, the position he occupies and where he was chosen. Simply, high-end left tackles aren’t found very often in the middle of Round 3. But Ballard took Raimann in the 2022 Draft and the organization has seen great growth from the Austrian native. With fellow offensive tackle Braden Smith in a contract year, it further added to the reasons why the Colts needed to give Raimann an extension. Chris Ballard shared these comments on the Raimann extension: “Bernhard has worked extremely hard, and this contract extension is a testament to his character, dedication and persistence. He exemplifies each of our team’s four pillars and is a leader in our locker room. I’m excited for him and his family on this well-deserved contract extension.”

-We saw our first notable, in-practice injury, on Tuesday morning. During a 1-on-1 rep, cornerback Jaylon Jones went down in what appeared to be a lot of pain as the third-year cornerback was running after WR-Tyler Kahmann. After receiving some medical attention for a few minutes, Jones needed help on a cart was carted inside. Jones is competing for that 3rd cornerback spot, alongside rookie Justin Walley and JuJu Brents. Even before Tuesday, it was fair to call Walley the early leader. And the rookie had a teach tape pass deflection while in man coverage against Michael Pittman Jr. during an 11-on-11 rep.

-One of the most reliable offensive players in camp so far has been second-year wideout Anthony Gould. I’m not sure how Gould finds consistent playing time behind Josh Downs, but he’s caught a ton of balls in 11-on-11 work.

-After Spencer Shrader had a perfect kicking day on Monday, undrafted free agent Maddux Trujillo followed with a perfect 6-of-6 on Tuesday. So, in full team practices, Shrader is 10-of-12 and Trujillo is 9-of-11.

-Tuesday’s offensive highlight was rookie QB-Riley Leonard uncorking one down the field to an in stride WR-D.J. Montgomery for what would have been an 80-ish yard touchdown.

-Haven’t noticed second-year linebacker Jaylon Carlies too much in camp, but the expected starter did have a late pass deflection on Tuesday. It appears we are nearing the 2025 debut of starting linebackers Zaire Franklin and Carlies on the field together.

-Amped up physicality on Tuesday included a live tackling period for the 3rd teamers. And it included Grover Stewart tossing Jonathan Taylor to the ground after the running back caught a screen. Taylor was none too pleased with the big fella. But any extra fireworks between the two quickly ended.

-Couple nice 7-on-7 reps from A.D. Mitchell, including climbing over cornerback Samuel Womack III for a deep connection from Daniel Jones.

-Rookie safety Hunter Wohler hauled in an INT on Tuesday after a tipped ball from linebacker Solmon DeShields. Wohler appears to be in nice position for a 53-man roster spot, which is not something you typically say for a 7th round pick.

-Guys that stood out on Tuesday practice: CB-Samuel Womack II, LB-Solomon DeShields, WR-D.J. Montgomery, WR-A.D. Mitchell, RB-D.J. Giddens, QB-Riley Leonard.

-Here is how the starting offense looked on Tuesday: QB-Anthony Richardson, RB-Jonathan Taylor, WR-Michael Pittman Jr., WR-AD Mitchell, WR-Josh Downs, TE-Tyler Warren, LT-Bernhard Raimann, LG-Quenton Nelson, C-Danny Pinter, RG-Matt Goncalves, RT-Braden Smith

-Here is how the starting defense looked on Tuesday : DE-Laiatu Latu, DT-DeForest Buckner, DT-Grover Stewart, DE-Kwity Paye, LB-Joe Bachie, LB-Jaylon Carlies, CB-Kenny Moore II, CB-Charvarius Ward, CB-Justin Walley, S-Cam Bynum, S-Nick Cross.

Injury Report: The following players did not appear to be participating at Tuesday or got hurt during practice: LB-Zaire Franklin (ankle), CB-JuJu Brents (hamstring), CB-David Long (groin), LB-Cam McGrone (quad), CB-Jaylon Jones (hamstring), RB-Salvon Ahmed (back), WR-Michael Pittman Jr. (groin).
