Colts Camp Day 3: Anthony Richardson, Tyler Warren Shine
Colts Camp Notebook Day 3: Anthony Richardson, Tyler Warren Shine

INDIANAPOLIS – The third straight Colts practice to begin training camp met another hot one in central Indiana.
But Anthony Richardson and Tyler Warren handled the heat quite well on Friday morning.
Here are some takeaways from Day 3 of Colts training camp:
-That was easily Anthony Richardson’s best day of camp, as it was back to the Day 1 schedule of him getting 2 periods with the starters, compared to just 1 for Daniel Jones. The third-year QB was 8-of-11 in his full team reps (5-of-8 with the starters)). Richardson frequently targeted Tyler Warren with the duo hooking up 3 separate times. It wasn’t a day filled with deep shots from Richardson, but he had a nice day of on-target throws, offering some catch and run opportunities to his pass catchers. Richardson completed his 8 passes to Tyler Warren (3), Anthony Gould (2), Michael Pittman Jr., Will Mallory, D.J, Montgomery. For camp, Richardson is unofficially 15-of-29 (10-of-18 with the starters). He has completed his 15 balls to: Michael Pittman Jr. (4), Tyler Warren (4), Anthony Gould (3), Jonathan Taylor, Alec Pierce, Will Mallory, D.J, Montgomery.
-Daniel Jones got one starting period on Friday (the first period of practice), and he finished the day 7-of-11 (3-of-4 with the starters). Jones hung in on a muddy pocket (probably should have been a sack) to find Josh Downs for his biggest highlight of the day. Jones completed his 7 passes to Anthony Gould (3), Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, Drew Ogletree, Will Mallory. For camp, Jones is unofficially 19-of-29 (9-of-14 with the starters). Through camp, Jones has completed passes to the following guys: Anthony Gould (5), Alec Pierce (2), Drew Ogletree (2), Josh Downs (2), Michael Pittman Jr., Drew Ogletree, Will Mallory, AD Mitchell, Tyler Warren, D.J. Giddens, Ashton Dulin, Salvon Ahmed. If the Colts continue their pattern to start camp, expect Jones to get the extra 11-on-11 period during Saturday’s afternoon practice.
-What Tyler Warren showed on Friday was that natural ability to snare passes all over his catch radius. That’s probably what separates Warren a bit, in bringing such free-flowing hands and running stride to the tight end position.
-The general question regarding AD Mitchell in Year 2 is can he prove to be more reliable when targeted? Three days into camp and that hasn’t occurred. Mitchell has had a trio of drops/fumbles in the handful of times he’s been targeted. Overall, the Colts pass catching group has struggled with drops and/or winning those contested catch moments.
-Friday brought veteran rest days for Grover Stewart, Charvarius Ward, Samson Ebukam, Mo Alie-Cox. Rookie JT Tuimoloau was slow to get up, needing some medical attention, during the final team period of Friday’s practice.
-The kicker battle is on! And it wasn’t a banner day for either kicker. Spencer Shrader went 4-of-6, making kicks from 33, 37, 41 and 45 yards. Shrader was wide left from 53, before missing it wide right from the same distance on a second kick. Undrafted kicker Maddux Trujillo connected from 33, 37 and 45 yards, but missed right from 41 and 53 yards, adding up to a 3-of-5 day.
-I’ll single cornerback Jaylon Jones out for his disruption on Friday. While the third-year corner is having to fight to keep his starting job (in nickel packages), he has to feel good about the impression he left on Friday forcing multiple incompletions. This is a fun battle to watch with rookie Justin Walley and JuJu Brents also involved.
-The full pads have yet to be donned, but Friday brought the biggest hit so far of camp. It was rookie safety Hunter Wohler delivering quite the blow to tight end Will Mallory. But credit to Mallory for holding onto the catch. Mallory had a pretty active day and Wohler was also around the ball in coverage a couple of times.
-A punt period on Friday had Anthony Gould and undrafted wideout Coleman Owen fielding punts
-Guys that stood out on Fridays practice: S-Cam Bynum, TE-Will Mallory, CB-Jaylon Jones, TE-Tyler Warren
-Here is how the starting offense looked on Friday: QB-Daniel Jones, RB-Jonathan Taylor, WR-Michael Pittman Jr., WR-Alec Pierce, WR-Josh Downs, TE-Tyler Warren, LT-Bernhard Raimann, LG-Quenton Nelson, C-Tanor Bortolini, RG-Matt Goncalves, RT-Braden Smith
-Here is how the starting defense looked on Friday: DE-Laiatu Latu, DT-DeForest Buckner, DT-Neville Gallimore, DE-Kwity Paye, LB-Cam McGrone, LB-Jaylon Carlies, CB-Jaylon Jones, CB-Charvarius Ward, CB-Justin Walley, S-Cam Bynum, S-Nick Cross.
Injury Report: The following players did not appear to be participating at Friday’s practice: LB-Zaire Franklin (ankle). The Colts gave veteran rest days to the following players: Grover Stewart, Charvarius Ward, Samson Ebukam, Mo Alie-Cox. Rookie JT Tuimoloau left practice early.
