Ball State RHP Drey Jameson was drafted 34th in the MLB Draft last night by the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He joins the show to talk to Greg Rakestraw who is filling in for DD to talk about his excitement to take this next big step and how his experience at Ball State was.  He was a sophomore at Ball State and attended Greenfield-Central High School.

When did you realize that you had a possibility of one day playing in the majors?

“It’s always been a dream and I started to be able to feel that towards the end of the season when I got a lot of phone calls from other people and scouts and that kind of stuff.  So midseason, you see all the scouts in my bullpen and that kind of stuff.  At that point I didn’t know where I was gonna get picked but towards the end of the season I had a good idea.  A general idea of where at in the draft I would go but you never know until your name is called.”

Why did you initially pick Ball State to pursue your baseball career?

“You know, everything just fit me.  That campus was not super big to where you can get to all your classes on feet and not have to worry about getting on busses and that kind of stuff.  But really, what brought me in was Coach Maloney and his baseball staff.  When I came on my visit, they brought me in not only as a baseball player but wanting to be more of a man.  It felt to me that they were more involved in me as a person more than a baseball player which I really like. Anything I needed he was gonna help me with and I really bought into that and he brought me in and I couldn’t turn down the offer that I got and that’s where I ended up.”

1070 The Fan wishes Drey the best of luck in his future MLB endeavors with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
