Greg Rakestraw fills in for Dan Dakich and Will Haskett, the host of The Perfect Number podcast, joins the show to discuss all things golf. They talk PGA Tour, the U.S. Open, Indiana names in the championships, Rory Mcilroy, Brooks Koepka, and more.
On Indiana names playing in the championship playoffs next month:
“We have so many tournaments to go because you also have to keep in mind, there is a PGA tour this weekend in Kentucky, opposite of the Open championships. So the guys that didn’t make the British Open are going to be in Kentucky at the Barbasol championship trying to earn more points too. So even though there are only three weeks left in the so-called regular season of the PGA tour, there are actually five tournaments to earn points. Nothing has really been determined yet. Adam Shenk had a ton of favorites yesterday, that finish is going to allow him to guarantee him to keep his card which I think he was already safely in, but he is 79th right now in FedEx cup points. Patrick Rodgers is 88th. As good as he was coming out of high school and as great as he was in college, the fact that he hasn’t won is a bit disappointing and frankly quite surprising but he has battled injuries. He is going to safely make the playoffs, he is 88th right now in FedEx up points. The big run yesterday for Tyler Duncan really helped but he has a long ways to go still. He is 158th right now, right behind Chase Wright, Muncie’s own Chase Wright, in 157th in FedEx Cup points. These guys need to play really well this week at Barbasol with limited amount of points. They won’t be in the world golf championships for that next week so they will be out in Reno playing out in the Lake Tahoe event out there and then they will be battling likely at the Wyndham championship, which is the next stop that I will be, the final week is Sedgefield in Greensboro, North Carolina trying to get into the top 125. You make the top 125, you make the playoffs but you also keep your card guaranteed for the 2019-2020 PGA tour season.”
On the golfer we should be watching for:
“For every single reason, it is Rory Mcilroy. You can go sentimental value pick here, who has been probably the best golfer in the world consistently all season, and a guy whose major run, he has been the best at the Open championship over the last five years than any other major. If you look at it, he has three top sixes, I think he has only gotten beat by ten guys total in the last four years at this major. I think he is a guy to keep an eye on. The question there is, is it too much of a distraction, is there too much weight on his shoulders to win in his home country, I think that is probably the only thing that holds him back.”
