From South Bend Adams High School to Ball State University to the Indianapolis Colts, Danny Pinter is a Hoosier athlete through and through.

Pinter is no stranger to the Lucas Oil Stadium turf, as his Ball State Cardinals battled the Indiana Hoosiers just last fall in the Ruoff Kickoff Classic. Now he’ll be suiting up in a blue and white #63 jersey on Sundays.

Dan Dakich sat down with the Colts’ fifth round selection to talk about his skills and where he sees himself fitting in on the offensive line come September.

Dakich asked Pinter about his transition from tight end to tackle at Ball State:

“It wasn’t too hard,” Pinter said. “It was definitely something I embraced. It helped the team. Certainly tight end was fun, but it’s fun to be out there. You’re out there every single play, so that’s definitely a benefit of it. I think my personality definitely just fits the offensive line better – there’s definitely a culture to it. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and I love the position.”

What does Pinter need to improve on to solidify a spot on the Colts’ 53-man roster?

“For me, it’s continuing to hone in on technique, that sort of thing. Continue to get stronger. I’m trying to be as versatile as I can, play as many positions on the offensive line as I can to help [the Colts] wherever they need me to, wherever they want me to. And then, I think it all just centers around your work ethic. How much you’re gonna put into it. I plan on putting everything I have into it, and just going full-go at it.”

Pinter is excited for the chance to play at the highest level in his home state.

“It’s awesome, it’s definitely a blessing,” Pinter told Dan. “Staying in Indiana was something I knew was a chance heading into the draft, but you just don’t know because there’s 32 teams. To have this opportunity, it’s definitely something special. I haven’t even really wrapped my mind around it yet, but it’s great to be staying home.”

The Ball State product figures to provide some much needed depth on the offensive line – a line that completed a full 2019 season without injury. Pinter’s versatility will be key if and when injury strikes in 2020.
