[Chapell Hill, NC]- Bill Belichick is going back to college.

Belichick was announced as the next Head Coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels on Wednesday, a year after he left New England.

The news has hit the sports media world with reactions to the decision by the six-time Super Bowl Champion and the school.

On the Wake Up Call with KB and Andy, Kevin Bowen and Andy Sweeney shared their reactions to the news.

“My first reaction to the official word of Bill Belichick becoming the Head Football Coach at North Carolina, was laughter,” Kevin said, “I think it’s entertaining. I think it’s fascinating, but Andy, you have to laugh at it. Can you imagine they’ve got Clemson, huge game, crowds packed, their leaving the field for the final time before the game starts going to the locker room and there’s the booster yelling at Belichick ‘Come over and meet the family’. And here comes Dabo (Sweeney) sprinting down the hill and Belichick’s got to answer questions about planting flags.”

Andy chimed in on some distrust with the former Patriot’s Head Coach.

“Where I don’t trust Belichick,” Andy said, “He just had the same clowns of assistant coaches around him. He had (Matt) Patricia and turned him into an offensive coordinator. That guys a long-time (defensive coordinator) in NFL. Outside of Josh McDaniels, I didn’t feel like Belichick had a very good staff.”

Belichick and the New England Patriots parted ways at the conclusion of the 2023-24 NFL Season, in which the Patriots finished 4-13. His name was thrown out for Head Coaching Vacancies in the 2023 offseason, but he only conversed with Atlanta who eventually hired Raheem Morris.

North Carolina and Belichick have ties dating back to the 1950s, when his father Steve Belichick served as an assistant coach for the Tar Heels from 1953-1955.

The contract for Belichick runs five years and is worth $50-million dollars.

The Tar Heels open the 2025-26 season against TCU on August 30th.
