[West Lafayette, IN]- Purdue Football’s losing streak extended to seven on Saturday after a 26-20 overtime loss to the Northwestern Wildcats.

In the first quarter, Purdue and Northwestern would exchange field goals, tying the game at 3-3. That tie was broken with thirty-eight seconds left in the quarter after a 51-yard touchdown run by Northwestern’s Joseph Himon II. At the end of the quarter, the Boilermakers trailed 10-3.

In the second quarter, Jahmal Edrine hauled in a six yard pass by Hudson Card for Purdue’s first touchdown. However, prior to that score, the defense gave up a one yard touchdown run to Cam Porter of Northwestern. At the end of the half, Purdue trailed 17-10.

The third quarter saw just three points for Purdue, thanks to Spencer Porath’s 24 yard Field Goal.

Leading 17-13, Northwestern’s Luke Akers nailed a 41-yard field goal that extend the lead to seven. After a trick play where the Boilermaker’s Shamar Rigby threw an eight yard pass to Jaron Tibbs, Purdue would tie the game on a Devin McKobee one yard touchdown run, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, six points were all that Northwestern needed to come away with their fourth win of the season.

As a team offensively, Purdue had sixteen first downs, converted seven of sixteen third downs, had 297 passing yards and just 47 yards rushing.

Defensively, the Boilermakers gave up nineteen first downs, 302 passing yards, 124 yards rushing, and allowed two fourth down conversions.

Card completed 21 of his 37 passing attempts for 250 yards and one touchdown. Devin McKobee had ten carries for 29 yards and a touchdown.

The latest loss leaves Purdue as the only Big Ten team without a conference win and keeps them in the bottom of the conference standings. They are back in action next Saturday when they travel to (3) Ohio State at Noon.
