The news that Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is injured and is likely to miss multiple weeks is concerning.  The fact that injury expert Will Carroll said the injury is on the level of Peyton Manning’s neck injury is a whole other level of concern.  Carroll joined Kevin Bowen and Brendan King on Monday’s edition of The Fan Morning Show and painted a bleak picture of the star wideout’s current status.

“The question now is what is the next step for T.Y.? You have to consider that this is very likely a guy who will get hit in the head. And if his head gets hit, he has to be able to keep it stable.  You don’t want to mess with any spinal issues.  Can they do all of that in the space of 6 weeks?  They can, but the downside is surgery is still a distinct possibility.”

Carroll added that the goal for the Colts is to be able to manage Hilton’s injury throughout the season and if surgery is required, then to push it to the off-season if possible.  The guys also discussed the injuries to quarterback Sam Ehlinger, left tackle Sam Tevi and tried to figure if any of the other wideouts can take over in Hilton’s absence?  While Kevin and Brendan were both hopeful that guys like Michael Pittman Jr. and Parris Campbell could elevate their game to the next level, Kevin noted that the lack of veteran depth at wide receiver was another notable black mark on Chris Ballard’s off-season.

“It’s something to monitor in the next 24 hours.  I don’t expect a ton of activity at the wideout position but I think you watch it, see who gets cut, waiver wire…but I go back to March and think it was a missed opportunity to get some experience in that room.”
