Shaun O’Hara relates to Andrew Luck’s injury – if Jim Irsay’s description is correct. The three-time All-Pro and Super Bowl XLII Champion serves as a studio host and analyst for the NFL Network.
“When you don’t have your starting quarterback out there, how hard is it for an offense to progress?”
“Yeah, it’s all about rhythm really. I’ve been on teams – when I was on Cleveland early on, we had quarterback competitions and every day there was a different quarterback with the ones. Ya know, the one thing that stands out as a center, every quarterback takes the ball differently…that center-quarterback exchange is always a big part of it. But, the rhythm of the cadence…every quarterback has a little bit different rhythm or a little bit different voice inflection, so those are all things you’ve got to get used to. I think with Andrew, look he’s very familiar with this offensive line…as long as the one’s are all in there they’ve gotten a lot of reps together last year, in OTA’s, so, he’ll have no problem with all of that. But, you definitely want the confidence and the confidence comes from reps and it comes from continuity.”
“Is the line like any other position – you’ve got to prove it every play?”
“Yeah you’ve got to prove it every play – really every year. You can never go into a season saying we were really good last year, so were going to be good in that area, let’s just focus on our weaknesses. You’ve got to add layers of muscles to your strength. And I think that one thing that kind of gets lost in a lot of good teams is ‘hey, we’ve got a good starting five, let’s focus on the draft…’ You better have a good starting seven. Because in the NFL it’s rare for your offensive line to play every single game.”
