Week 14 was certainly a week on 2024 NFL calendar. How much of it will be memorable? Maybe a thing or two but otherwise, it may have been the worst slate of games on the calendar this season. The big game against the Packers and Lions was on Thursday night and six other teams were on byes this week, including some heavy hitters like the Ravens, Texans and Commanders. It was fine, but it was a good Sunday to catch up on a nap, especially in the 1pm slate.
There were some high points as well as some lows, so let’s get into it.
Good Scary: The Chiefs Keep Chiefing
I don’t know how they keep doing it but the Kansas City Chiefs just keep finding ways to win. They haven’t looked overly impressive all season long and yet, here they are at 12-1 and will be right in the thick of the playoffs as they try to go for their third straight Lombardi Trophy. The latest rabbit foot came on Sunday night when the Chiefs were able to milk the final five minutes off the clock and set up a 31-yard field goal by backup kicker Matthew Wright. Wright smoked the left upright but in typical Chiefs fashion, the ball still went through the uprights and was good to give them a 19-17 victory over the Chargers and secure yet another AFC West division title. They find ways to win and the fact that they are doing it when not looking their best should scare the rest of the league.

Good Scary: Bills-Rams Up For Game of the Year
66 bleepin’ points. The Rams pulled off the upset against the Bills with a 44-42 thriller in Los Angeles. Defenses be damned (and prayers if you started either defense in fantasy) because this was a game built on high-powered offenses. Josh Allen racked up six total touchdowns, Puka Nacua hauled in 12 catches for 162 yards and a score and the two teams combined for over 900 yards of offense. It was fun, it was entertaining and the win not only kept the Rams in the NFC playoff hunt but it snapped Buffalo’s seven-game winning streak ahead of a marquee showdown with the Detroit Lions next week. Week 14 needed more games like this. Speaking of which…

Bad Scary: The Rest of Week 14 Sucked
If you didn’t want to see another Chiefs walk-off or didn’t get a chance to take in the glory that was Bills-Rams then the rest of the Sunday slate offered very little as far as entertainment and compelling games. Boring affairs between the Jaguars/Titans and the Saints/Giants, no Jameis magic in Browns-Steelers, 49ers dismantled the Bears, Panthers kept it somewhat interesting between the Eagles before folding, it was all just a blah slate overall. Week 15 should be better. The bye weeks are over with and we’ve got some real bangers set up that also carry big playoff implications. Bills/Lions, Steelers/Eagles, Packers/Seahawks, Cols/Broncos, Buccaneers/Chargers and Dolphins/Texans all look solid on paper. If even half of deliver it’ll be one better than what we got this past Sunday.
