Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is stepping into a new chapter of life after proposing to Katarina Miketin.
The couple announced their engagement through a heartfelt Instagram post on January 3, where Miketin, 42, shared her excitement alongside a video featuring George Strait’s “I Cross My Heart.” She described Zimmer, who is 68, as her “best friend” and expressed gratitude, writing, “I said Yes!”
The post was filled with love and celebrated their bond, showcasing Miketin’s stunning engagement ring along with photos of the couple enjoying dinner and spending time with a horse.
Their engagement marks a bright moment for Zimmer, who has faced significant personal challenges over the years.
Zimmer previously lost his wife, Vikki, to natural causes in 2009.
He described her as a “kind, caring person” who held a special place in his life.
Tragedy struck again in October 2022 when Zimmer’s 38-year-old son, Adam, passed away due to complications from chronic alcohol use.
The loss deeply affected the former Vikings head coach.
Reflecting on Adam’s love for football and his struggles after being fired from the Minnesota Vikings, Zimmer expressed both sorrow and pride in his son’s talents.
Despite these hardships, Zimmer has found joy again in his professional and personal life.
After taking a brief hiatus from coaching in 2022 and 2023, he rejoined the Cowboys, where he formerly worked from 1994 to 2006.
Now in his role as defensive coordinator, he shared that the experience has been rewarding, saying, “It helps getting around the players again. We joke around…like the old days.”
