It took awhile for the Colts to find their starting quarterback for 2022 but they did when they traded for Matt Ryan but now that they have their QB they have stood pat when it comes to actually giving him weapons to work with.  The Colts have arguably one of the worst wide receiver/tight end/left tackle situations in the NFL and yet they seem perfectly content to sit back and try to correct a lot of issues through the draft or lower-tier free agents.  If that’s the case, it’s hard to believe they’ll be actual players in the loaded AFC picture.

For my life, I don’t understand the wide receiver spot and why they haven’t added at least one guy. – The Athletic‘s Zak Keefer on the Colts approach to free agency so far

Matt Ryan will be 37 years old by the time the Colts take the field for training camp in Westfield this summer.  He’s no spring chicken and for a guy with a shortened timetable left on his NFL career you would think the team that traded for him would be ready to build a potent offense around him to make the most out of their investment.  As of right now, the Colts seem to think they’ve solved the quarterback issue for the next couple of seasons and are content at trying to fix the rest of their holes with unproven NFL talent.  It’s an incredibly risky proposition, especially when Ryan is not the most mobile quarterback and potentially trusting his blind side to Matt Pryor or a rookie.  Outside of Michael Pittman Jr., the Colts wide receiver group will not exactly send shivers up the spine of opposing secondary units.  They seem to be banking on Mo Alie-Cox and Kylen Granson to step up in the tight end room as well.

On Thursday’s edition of Kevin & Query, Zak Keefer of The Athletic joined the show to discuss in detail owner Jim Irsay’s comments at the NFL owners meetings in Florida earlier this week.  He reacted to the not so veiled shots at Carson Wentz, the lack of free agency activity and why the Colts don’t seem to value the wide receiver position as much as the rest of the league.
