On Thursday’s edition of Kevin & Query, Kevin Bowen and Jake Query were live at the NFL Scouting Combine and were joined by Colts head coach Frank Reich.  The conversation touched on a number of topics, unsurprisingly quarterback Carson Wentz and his future with the team was front and center.  They also dove into off-season priorities, what they’re looking for at the scouting combine despite not having a first-round pick and a whole lot more.

Given the landscape we had at the moment we signed Carson, I think it was the right decision.  I’m not backing down from that.  I look back on it now and I still don’t think it was a bad decision.  Whether Carson is our quarterback or it’s someone else we’ll be at our best when our back are against the wall. – Colts head coach Frank Reich reflecting on last off-season’s trade for Carson Wentz

Reich was vague on Wentz’s future with the team and danced around any indication of finality of a decision being made. Reich emphasized that regardless of who is under center this fall the running game cannot be asked to carry the offensive load like it was this past season.

We should have had all these chunk plays with the passing game because of how well the running game was going and that’s something we didn’t get done. – Colts head coach Frank Reich on last season’s passing game struggles

Reich also talked about the Colts struggling against playoff teams and teams with winning record, Jack Doyle’s status for next season and the goals they set for themselves at the combine.
