1985 Indy 500 Danny Sullivan winner joins The Ride as Tony Donahue and Kevin Bowen fills in for JMV.  He joins the show to talk about his memories at the track and to talk about the things he liked in the year’s race.

What are your thoughts on the popularity of IndyCar and the rise it has been on recently?

“Well I think every race that we have watched recently has just been exciting.  You look at all the multiple winners, Simon Pagenaud is the first two-time winner this season.  It’s competitive, you have had a nineteen year old in Colton Herta winning his first race with a new team.  There is so many fresh faces in it, you look at (Santino) Ferrucci this past weekend finished seventh.  Conor Daly and then the established stars from Penske, Andretti, other teams and Ganassi of course with Scott Dixon.  I just think it’s great racing right now, it’s exciting, the cars are close, the qualifying is close.  Think about Indy, all that went on for a week and everything and then the entire field was covered by 1.08 seconds.  That’s not on a minute lap, that’s on a 2 minute and 36 second lap.  I think IndyCar racing is really exciting right now.  A great group of drivers and colorful characters.  Mark Miles and Jay Frye have done a tremendous deal over there in terms of getting the NBC, the  coverages is really spectacular right now.  Leigh Diffey and Paul Tracy, and all of them had just come together.  The whole package right now is very dynamic.”
