Breaking Down Myles Turner’s Departure, Adding Jay Huff

On the Monday after the 4th of July, we got more insight into Myles Turner’s departure from the Pacers, as well as on the man the Pacers brought in to help replace him.
Some of that insight came from Pacers president of basketball operations, Kevin Pritchard, while speaking with the gathered media. One interesting tidbit of information that came out from that was the fact that Turner, once he received the 4-year deal worth up to $107 million, did not give Indiana a chance to match. Pritchard also indicated that the Pacers would have matched and were “fully prepared” to dip into the luxury tax to retain him.
Alas, it was not to be, and now the post-Myles Turner era is underway in Indy.
In preparation for the start of that era, the Pacers traded for former Memphis Grizzly Jay Huff. Huff played 64 games for the Grizzlies last year, only starting 2, and averaged 6.9 points and 2 rebounds in 11.7 minutes per game, while shooting 40.5% from beyond the arc and 51.5% overall. They also re-signed former 2nd-overall pick James Wiseman as he looks to bounce back from an Achilles tear suffered in the Pacers first game last year. Both will compete for minutes alongside Tony Bradley, and potentially Thomas Bryant and Isaiah Jackson should the Pacers choose to bring them back (Jackson is a restricted free agent, so the Pacers can match any offer he receives).
