ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The IndyCar season nearly got off to a terrible start for Colton Herta.

The hauler carrying his car to the Firestone GP of St. Petersburg caught fire this morning when it was involved in a traffic accident on Interstate 275. Firefighters say no one was hurt in the accident, and neither was Herta’s car.

The fire was contained to the lower half of the hauler and the car is stored in the upper half. Andretti Autosport does say some other tools and equipment were damaged.

Herta is about to start his second season in IndyCar. He won two races in his rookie season with Harding-Steinbrenner Racing. Andretti and Steinbrenner joined forces during the off-season.
