Dealing with health issues in his final years at Ohio State, Matta decided to take time off from college basketball and return to his alma mater as a fan and season ticket holder. During his interview with 107.5 The Fan afternoon host JMV, Matta said it was during this time he saw how high the level of play was in the Big East.
After his introductory press conference, Matta joined JMV and talked about if he thought he would ever coach again after leaving Ohio State, and what it was that gave him the itch to return to the sideline:
“I don’t think I ever thought in my mind I was done. I knew it was going to take something different and special to get me interested…I think this year being down at IU kind of sparked a little hunger and made me think I want to do this again if the right situation presents itself and this is obviously the perfect situation for Thad Matta.”
Thad and JMV get into the changes in college basketball since his last season in 2017, what he learned in his one year in Bloomington, the transfer portal, and if he reached out to former Butler Head Coach Brad Stevens before accepting the job. Listen to the full podcast below!
