The NBA Trade Deadline is Thursday, Feb. 10, at 3:00 p.m. The Pacers made their first big move of the week trading wing Caris LeVert to the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeVert, along with a 2022 second-round pick, is headed to the Land and Indiana received Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract, a lottery-protected 2022 first round pick and two second round picks.

On Monday’s Kevin & Query, Kevin Bowen weighed in on the trade and why he was in favor of the move for the Pacers:

“One, obviously look at the draft picks. If you are sitting there at five overall when it’s all said and done and you want to get up to two overall, three overall, you’ve got some additional picks to move on up…the cap space situation, you can do a lot of things with that. You can involve that in trades you can obviously sign somebody.”

In addition, the Pacers moving on from a wing player opens up playing time for younger players like Duane Washington Jr. and Chris Duarte. In the first game without LeVert, Washington Jr. and Duarte combined for 39 points and 67 total minutes of action.

The question remains, is this the last thing the Pacers will do before Thursday’s deadline? Indiana now has plenty of draft capital and cap space to work with. Do they sit tight and hold on to all of those picks or do they use them as leverage in a sweeter deal? For months, we’ve been talking about the possibility of trading Domantas Sabonis and, or, Myles Turner and that is certainly on the table on the eve of the deadline.

Whether or not another move is made this week, Kevin Pritchard has made a move that is more likely to help the Pacers in the future rather than right now and that’s a philosophy that hasn’t been practiced by this organization many times in recent years.

Alex Golden from Setting the Pace Podcast joined Kevin and Query on Monday to talk all things Pacers. To find that conversation and more on the trade deadline, listen to Monday’s Best of Kevin & Query below and be sure to tune in live weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on 93.5 and 107.5 the Fan!
